Lead Service Line Replacement

Lead Line Rewind Cover

Richton Park's Lead Service Line Replacement Program is a Multi-Year Plan to replace all the lead service lines in the Village. The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) has mandated ALL Illinois municipalities that own and operate community water supplies to develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive water service line material inventory and replacement plan.

The Village of Richton Park is in the process of collecting data from each household which will tell us if your home has a lead service line or a copper service line. Galvanized steel lines will also need to be replaced. Based on the information provided to us, we will determine if your home will need a lead service line replacement.

Service Lines are pipes that transport water form the water main at the street into your home. If your home was built before 1986, the chances of your home having a lead or galvanized steel line is a possibility.

Important Info About Your Service Line Replacement

Our hired contractor will replace all existing lead piping with copper piping, from the first valve inside the house (or at least 18” inside the building envelope, whichever is shorter), to the water main in the street. All associated valves, boxes, and fittings to maintain proper operation of the supply to the house will be replaced or reinstalled.

The methods utilized for Customer water service line replacement will leave the majority of the property undisturbed. The Village will provide a warranty of the material and workmanship of the Customer water service line for 12 months following completion of the construction project.

Service Line Replacement Process

The Village will restore your outdoor property and the contractor will minimize disruption indoors, both to their original condition as much as possible, upon completion of the new service connection.

The Contractor will also require access to the building for a preconstruction inspection with photographs and/or an excavation near the property line with the right-of-way to determine the service line material type.
