Photo I.D. Cards

We require that the Public Works Departments employees carry Photo I.D. cards. In the event we need to service your water meter, or gain access to your home, please ask to see identification. For your safety, Public Works Department employees also wear uniforms and drive marked Village vehicles. In most cases, all meter service calls are scheduled with you prior to our arrival.
Again, ask to see identification. We will be glad you asked.

Animal Control Policy

Skunk & Raccoon.jpg
The Village of Richton Park will cover the cost of most wildlife animals as long as they are on the outside of a home. The Village contracts with an outside vendor to help eliminate these problems. If there is wildlife inside the home (attic, basement, etc) this would be considered the homeowners responsibility. In order to obtain additional information, please contact Public Works at (708) 481-8950x147.

One way to help reduce problems with wild animals is to eliminate areas that can be possible homes to these critters. Areas such as firewood piles should be kept neat and clean. Porches/Decks/Sheds should be closed off to prevent entry. Refuse cans should be covered at all times and the area kept clean.

Hydrant Flushing

Fire Hydrant.jpg
The Village of Richton Park Fire Department, flushes fire hydrants on an annual basis. This flushing occurs throughout the months of May through October. This process helps to reduce and remove the accumulation of rust and iron in the Village’s water main distribution system. The flushing may cause discolored water in your system. This discolored water is bacteriologically safe, and will not harm you.

The Fire Department also inspects and maintains the hydrants, as they proceed with the flushing operation. This ensures that the hydrants will work, as expected, should they be needed. Improperly working hydrants are reported to the Public Works Department for repair or replacement.

Village residents should check their water supply on the days of flushing, as posted by signage at the entrance to flushing areas, prior to beginning laundry or other activities that may be effected by discolored water. Your cooperation and understanding during water main flushing is greatly appreciated.

Tree Trimming and Removal

Tree Trimming:

Tree Trimming will begin in the fall in various areas of the Village. Trimming is necessary as many trees and limbs obstruct public sidewalks and streets. For additional information please contact Public Works.

Tree Branch Removal:
Pick up of tree branches will be the first and third Tuesday of each month (April thru November). Residents must call and setup an appointment for this pickup. Branches must be out Tuesday before 6am (no earlier then 6pm on Mondays). They must be cut in manageable lengths, and should be stacked neatly, or they will not be picked up.

Please visit the Tree Branch Removal Page for additional information.

Emerald Ash Borer:
The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is an extremely destructive tree-killing insect, which will seriously impact the Village of Richton Park, both or environment and our budget. The EAB was first found in Illinois in 2006, and has spread rapidly, being confirmed in 193 communities, in 22 counties.

Please visit the Emerald Ash Borer Page for additional information.

Tree Donation Program:
The Village of Richton Park allows you to show just how special those you care for are, and, at the same time, make a difference in the community. Each donation honors a special person in your life by planting a tree in their honor or memory.

Please visit the Tree Donation Page for additional information.
