Richton Park, Parks and Rec is thrilled to announce the Village of Richton Park, has been awarded the 2024 Blue Cross Blue Shield Illinois Grant in the amount of $50,000. The National Fitness Campaign has partner with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois as part of a national movement to make world-class fitness free and accessible in public spaces across the country, which is more important today than ever before.
The National Fitness Campaign (NFC), is a for-profit wellness consulting firm. National Fitness Campaign’s mission is to make “world class fitness free” to support healthy communities across America. As a social enterprise, National Fitness Campaign is committed to using a portion of our profits each year to support local communities.
Parks & Rec Director Ashley Turner says, “We’re excited to be a recipient of this grant for an Outdoor Fitness Court at Pierce Park. This new feature is for residents at any fitness level to exercise, connect with neighbors and promote a healthy lifestyle.”
Launched in 1979, the National Campaign has served millions, who see the value of coming outdoors every day to walk, jog, or cycle to a nearby Fitness Court, which becomes an active city hub for healthy living. Fitness Courts offer an easy to learn, scientifically designed “7-minute full body movement system” for adults of all ages and fitness levels. The outdoor infrastructure is supported by a digital toolkit, which is delivered across America to encourage people in communities to come outdoors and remain active and engaged.
The entire project will cost $205,000 and the remaining $160,000 will come from Capital Project Fund.
The project will include a ¾ Installation of the Outdoor Fitness Court and Concrete Slab at Pierce Park.
