The SafeLIGHT Foundation recently celebrated nine Southland College Prep students who were part of its 2023-24 class of Teen Ambassadors. The program focuses on promoting safe driving messages to teens to prevent crashes and save lives.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), motor vehicle crashes are one of the leading causes of death for U.S. teens. Through social media campaigns, a public service announcement, and town hall-style meetings at their school, the teens shared information with their peers on the risks and responsibilities associated with teen driving.
Each student earned a $2500 college scholarship for their participation.
Donate Life Illinois and Gift of Hope sponsor the Teen Ambassador program. The Illinois Secretary of State’s Office, which is a strong advocate of teen driver safety, also supports the program.
The SafeLIGHT Foundation is a nonprofit organization committed to promoting safe driving behavior. Applications are now being accepted for the SafeLIGHT Foundation’s 2024-25 Teen Ambassador Program.
