[ARCHIVED] Richton Park Seeks New Specialty Grocery Store Tenant

Save ALot

The Save-A-Lot grocery store at 3736 Sauk Trail in Richton Park is set to close on February 16. “The store will have had a 17-year run in our town center,” said Village President Rick Reinbold. “Richton Park shoppers want a new specialty grocery store, so hopefully this vacancy becomes an opportunity for a new user our residents can be proud of.”

The 15,000 square foot store is walkable from the Metra Electric station and anchors a 30,000 square-foot commercial strip. “Sauk Trail Plaza is the commercial anchor of Richton Park’s east side,” said property owner Allen Enayatian of New York-based ZEA Capital. “The plaza serves residents from Richton Park and nearby Park Forest, Matteson and University Park and greater northeast Illinois.”

Across the street from the plaza a specialty vegan bakery and café is renovating a 5,000 square foot building. Sweet Vegan Bakes plans to open its second Chicagoland location in Richton Park this spring. “Richton Park is the best place in the south suburbs to open a new business,” emphasized business owner Cheryl Nelson. “I see a lot of south suburban residents travelling so far to get to my Chicago store, so I know that opening this new location in Richton Park will make my business accessible to so many more customers in the south suburbs and northwest Indiana.”

Ohio-based Yellow Banana purchased the Richton Park store in 2021 at the same time the company began negotiations with the City of Chicago on a deal to renovate multiple Chicago stores. Yellow Banana declined to propose any new investment or lease extension for the Richton Park store.

The Village of Richton Park is a warm, welcoming and diverse south suburban village where progress and forward thinking are plentiful. Richton Park prides itself in being a safe, tight-knit community with opportunity and promise for visitors, families, and businesses.
