The Richton Park Fire Department is looking for a new class of youngsters interested in what it takes to be a firefighter. Kids that are Richton Park residents can now register for our annual Junior Firefighter Academy, lead by our dedicated Fire & Rescue staff. This year’s week-long, FREE academy is open to boys and girls ages 7 to 12.
Participants will come away from with an understanding of how the Richton Park Fire Department is structured, the responsibilities of personnel, the capabilities of each apparatus, and the teamwork required for the Fire Department to execute its duties. The academy will be a combination of lecture, hands-on drills, and games. Academy participants will learn information on a number of different topics, including firefighting, search-and-rescue and CPR. Participants will also be asked to perform such physical activities as carry hose and tools, ascend stairs and crawl. All activities will be conducted under the close supervision of Fire Department personnel.
Class size is limited to 30 participants so students can get close personal attention from instructors. Anyone interested in enrolling in the Junior Fire Academy must register at the Richton Park Community Center, located at 4445 Sauk Trail.
