Citizens Fire Academy

The Citizen’s Fire Academy is a FREE eight-week program at the Richton Park Fire Department at 4455 Sauk Trail in Richton Park.

The mission of the Citizen Fire Academy is to give participants insight into how firefighter/ paramedics perform their duties as well as how the Richton Park Fire Department serves the community in response to emergency and non-emergency responses.

Sessions consist of classroom discussions and hands on practical exercises that focus on various facets of being a firefighter including: fire prevention, fire extinguishment, climbing ladders, wearing personal protective equipment, dealing with medical emergencies, CPR certification and much more. The goal is to help citizens become more safety-conscious citizens by gaining insight into the services provided to the community as well as gaining a broad spectrum of knowledge and skills that is required to be a firefighter/paramedic in the Village of Richton Park.

Individuals must be at least 18 years old to participate and we encourage our senior citizens to participate in the academy. The class size is limited so you are encouraged to apply early. There will be a variety of physical activities like crawling, bending, lifting and climbing. All are welcome.
