31st Annual National Night Out -August 5, 2014
Richton Park to Join Cities Nationwide For
"America's Night Out Against Crime"

RICHTON PARK, IL- The Village of Richton Park Police Department in cooperation with the Home Owner’s Association will participate in the 31st Annual National Night Out (NNO) on August 5, 2014.
NNO is a unique crime prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW.)

Last year’s NNO involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood associations and local officials in over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. In all, 37 million people participated in 2014.

NNO is designed to: (1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fight back.

Along with the traditional display of outdoor lights and front porch vigils, cities, towns, and neighborhoods “celebrate” NNO with a variety of events and activities such as: block parties, cookouts, visits from local police and fire department, parades, flashlight walks, contests, and youth programs. NNO has proved to be an effective, inexpensive an enjoyable program to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships in our fight for a safer nation.

The Village of Richton Park Police Department's main program for NNO will be held at Glaeser Park from 7:00 p.m. to sunset. Activities include archery and other games, prizes, face painting, free food and fireworks! We encourage neighborhoods to turn on their porch lights; lock their doors and go outside to get to know their neighbors. Village representatives will attend all neighborhood events.

For further information or if you would like to host a NNO event, contact Chief Elvia Williams at (708) 283-6393 ext. 209.
